So, it’s not a surprise to see that the indoor houseplant sector has literally bloomed during lockdown, with garden centres reporting record activity and an increase in average spend in 2020.

Conservatory Archives is a cosy little leafy nook nested in Hackney, with a wide variety of plants and some rare specimens. As soon as you’ll pass the door, you’ll feel transported into an urban jungle, with every corner of the shop covered with colourful plants and long trailing vines. 2. Plant Warehouse, Hackney
The Plant Warehouse is located a few minutes away from the Conservatory Archives, making very easy to hop between the two. Originally a small stall in a London market, this family-run business has now grown into two stores (The Plant Warehouse and The Flower Warehouse, which acts as their garden centre, just across the street). It’s a great option to find cool affordable plants and trendy decorative pots on a budget.

3. Grace and Thorn, Hackney
If you’re looking for florist bouquets in East London, then Grace and Thorn is your best bet. Their flagship store is just a short stroll from Shoreditch High Street and Broadway Market, where you can browse fresh and dried flowers, as well as houseplants. 4. Prick, Dalston
London’s first boutique dedicated solely to cacti and succulents, Prick is a paradise for all the fans of these popular little plants. This cacti cavern is the perfect place if you’re looking for a spiky companion to expand your collection. Nested in trendy Dalston, it stocks over 150 varieties.

5. Botanique Workshop, Clerkenwell and Stoke Newington
Situated in Exmouth Market, Botanique Workshop is a gorgeous store filled with fresh flowers, houseplants, and a curated collection of handcrafted products and ceramics. The perfect place to browse unique gifts such as candles, seed packets, flower press or bouquets. 6. Columbia Road Flower Market, Bethnal Green
One of London’s most visually appealing street market, Columbia Road Flower Market certainly doesn’t need an introduction. Situated in Bethnal Green, this street market is open on Sundays only, from 8am to 3pm. It’s probably not the most recommended destination for social distancing as it gets pretty crowded. But definitely worth the trip to buy fresh flowers, find a bargain or simply look at the vintage stalls, cute cafés and Victorian shops behind the stalls and down side streets.

7. Clifton Nurseries
If you’re heading West, make sure to pay a visit to Clifton Nurseries. This place is an oasis of tranquility just off Maida Vale. 9. Smith’s Garden Centre
Smith’s Garden Centre is one of these nurseries that have been around forever. According to their website, they started their journey back in the 1930’s ‘with two small greenhouses and a boiler to keep the plants warm’. 10. The Kew Gardener (Kew Gardens)
Just a few streets away from Kew Gardens, The Kew Gardener is run by plant passionate and graduate from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Daniel Slack. If you’re visiting Battersea, make sure to stop at Battersea Flower station.
